Many Christians wonder if Satan still has the power to accuse them before God. The Bible shows that, yes, Satan continues to act as an accuser of believers. One clear example of this is found in the book of Job, where Satan accuses Job’s character before God. Job 1:9-11 tells us how Satan questions Job’s righteousness, claiming that Job only serves God because of his material blessings. This reveals Satan’s role as an accuser who seeks to undermine the faith of God’s people.

Satan the Accuser

Satan’s desire to accuse believers isn’t limited to Old Testament times. In fact, Revelation 12:10 describes him as the one who “accuses them day and night before our God” (ESV). His strategy involves bringing charges against us and attempting to expose our sins and failures to God. Even now, Satan aims to sow doubt and guilt in our hearts by highlighting our shortcomings.

Our Advocate: Jesus Christ

While Satan may accuse us, believers have something far greater—an advocate in Jesus Christ. Romans 8:33-34 offers incredible reassurance:
"Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us" (ESV).
Though Satan may attempt to accuse us, Jesus stands in our defense. His death and resurrection have permanently dealt with our sins. Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, continually interceding for us. In other words, while Satan may accuse, Jesus has already wiped our record clean through His atoning sacrifice.

The End of Satan’s Accusations

While Satan still has access to accuse believers, this will not continue forever. Revelation 12:10-12 speaks of a future time, during the tribulation period when Satan will be cast out of heaven and no longer allowed to accuse believers before God. This marks the final defeat of Satan’s power to accuse, as Christ will have fully triumphed over him.

What This Means for Us Today

For now, it’s important to remember that Satan’s accusations cannot separate us from God's love. Even when we feel weighed down by guilt or reminded of past sins, we can rest in the truth that our advocate, Jesus Christ, has already taken care of our sin problem once and for all. Satan may bring our sins to God's attention, but Jesus has already paid the price for them.

In 1 John 2:1, we are reminded that “if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”(ESV). As believers, we have complete assurance in Christ’s finished work. Satan’s accusations cannot overturn the victory we have through Jesus. Our security is in Him, and our salvation is secure because of His grace.

Yes, Satan still accuses believers before God, but those accusations have no lasting power. Jesus Christ stands as our advocate, defending us and reminding us that our sins are forgiven. Though Satan may try to discourage us, we can rest in the assurance that we are justified before God through the work of Christ. And one day, Satan’s accusations will come to an end forever.
